Abstract. Since 24 February 2022, the war in Ukraine has brought except human suffering also unprecedented and long-lasting challenges to the environment. With the war still ongoing, it is too early for a comprehensive assessment of the environmental damage, yet there are already worrying indications of the growing environmental problems. Numerous studies regarding the environmental consequences of the conflict in Ukraine have been undertaken. It is worth highlighting data analysis and public policies of the OECD (2022). While some results have already been published [1-2], others are still pending publication [3]. The environmental costs of the war include direct impacts on habitats and species; but also indirect ones in terms of pollution of air, land, and water, or diverted resources.
